Electric Football is Still Buzzing – Part I

Page from Sears catalog featuring Tudor Electric Football game.In the wake of Norman Sas’ passing, a lot of things have been written about electric football over the last couple of weeks. And the majority of it has been extremely positive.  From columnists, to bloggers, to the notoriously fickle and often contentious “comments” sections, the feedback and recollections of electric football have been remarkably thoughtful and heartfelt.

However, one very important thing has been missing from much of the discussion.

Electric football IS still available. (Let me say it one more time for good measure).

Electric football IS still available.

If you want to buy an electric football game, you can. Ballpark Classics bought Miggle Toys in February, creating a Tudor Games division that is now selling electric football games and teams. So if your game was long ago put in the trash, or lost in a move, you can still get a new game. And painted teams are still available (not official NFL teams, but very NFL-like).

The fact that a company called “Tudor” is still out there…it really should be a significant of part of the discussion. And the reason is simple.

It IS part of Norman Sas’ legacy.

That the game he invented is still being produced 60+ years later, that’s incredibly significant. That’s longer than Mouse Trap, longer than Life, longer than Barbie, longer than the Hula Hoop, longer than Etch-A-Sketch, longer than Play-Doh, and longer than Mr. Potato head.

It’s truly a legacy worth remembering, and one that will be fully explored in our upcoming book The Unforgettable Buzz.

Let’s hope that Tudor Games and electric football go on for another 60 years.
